SSN CME Successfully Held at KIST Medical College, Imadol, Lalitpur | 28th Ashad 2082 (12th July 2025), Saturday

The Society of Surgeons of Nepal (SSN) held its Monthly Meeting at the KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital on the 12th of July, 2025. A total of 86 participants, including surgeons, medical professionals and students, gathered for an engaging scientific session focused on recent advances and noteworthy case studies in the field of surgery.

 

 

Key Presentations:

1.Myelomeningocele: Unfolding the Spine
Speaker: Dr. Saujanya Jung Pandey
Dr. Saujanya Pandey provided an insightful overview of Myelomeningocele, a severe form of spina bifida. The presentation emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and surgical interventions in improving the quality of life for affected patients.

2. “A Stick Too Far” – An Unusual Case of Urethral Foreign Body
Speaker: Dr. Sanjay Shrestha
Dr. Sanjay Shrestha shared an intriguing case of a foreign body in the urethra. The unusual nature of the object and the complexities of its removal provided a unique learning opportunity for the attendees.

3. A Case of Chronic Abdominal Pain – Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome
Speaker: Dr. Krisha Maharjan
Dr. Krisha Maharjan presented a case of chronic abdominal pain caused by Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS). The session explored the symptoms, diagnosis, and surgical treatment options for this often-overlooked condition.

 

4. Vessel Depleted Leg: Reconstructive Challenges
Speaker: Dr. Aayam Adhikari
Dr. Aayam Adhikari discussed the reconstructive challenges faced in treating a patient with a vessel-depleted leg. The presentation included innovative surgical techniques and the latest advancements in vascular reconstruction.

5. Lost and Found: The Wandering Testes and the Mystery of Missing Germ Cells
Speaker: Dr. Rohit Neupane
Dr. Rohit Neupane concluded the scientific session with an intriguing case of undescended testes. The discussion highlighted the challenges in diagnosing and managing this condition, along with the mystery surrounding the missing germ cells.

 

6. Nepal’s First Case Report of Living Donor Liver Transplant Following Bridging Plasmapheresis in Acute or Chronic Liver Failure
Speaker: Dr. Akanand Singh
Dr. Akanand Singh introduced a ground-breaking case study where a living donor liver transplant was performed in Nepal, following bridging plasmapheresis to treat acute or chronic liver failure. This presentation demonstrated the evolving landscape of liver transplantation in Nepal and the success of advanced medical interventions.
