Dear Fellow Surgeons,
It is indeed an honor and privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility of ‘General Secretary’ of the Society of Surgeons of Nepal. Despite the challenging times, the previous executive committee has made significant progress resolving numerous issues and successfully organizing the National Conference in Chitwan and I thank them for their commitment.
Since its establishment in 1992, the Society of Surgeons of Nepal (SSN) has been a platform to share knowledge and experience among surgeons. It has been instrumental in developing the surgical specialty and subsequently, numerous subspecialities have been established over the last few years. In this regard, the responsibility of SSN has broadened to involve all the surgeons of Nepal from every nook and corner and various subspecialities, perpetuating the legacy of brother hood and good will amongst us.
The core strength of the society are its members, academics and research. We are making membership easy and accessible to all by facilitating on line application and submission of necessary documents as well as online payment of membership fees. We also need to keep improving the benefit of membership and we will work on it.
We plan to forge links with the surgical fraternity in the neighboring countries especially from India. We plan to reach out to other International Societies as well to get their involvement in academics and training for our surgical fraternity and residents. We also look forward to establishing a ‘surgical skill training’ center in Nepal. This will help us achieve our goal to provide ‘Safe Surgery’ all over the country.
To have best outcome in surgery we not only need skilled surgeon but also well informed and knowledgeable patients. As a society dedicated to providing the best surgical care, we plan to work on achieving this by educating patients on common surgical conditions on simplest of terms using social media.
We are proud to have Dr Romeo Kansakar as our 15th President. With a dynamic team and under his able leadership, we look forward to forging harmony amongst us surgeons in the country and beyond. The Society of Surgeons is our society, and we in the executive committee, humbly request you all to labor with us to care and nurture it, for the good of our profession, our patients and for the sake of the future surgeons.
Dr. Shail Rupakheti
General Secretary
Society of Surgeons of Nepal
